It is unfortunate that we are being bamboozled by such a morally worthless company, but I must say it is comforting to know that usacomplaints.com is (now) a helpful resource.
In December I purchased a jvc digital video camera from the local Circuit City. I was specifically looking for one which I could edit video easily with (for my sake) and that also had still picture feature with memory card (for my wife's sake). When I walked in it was probably 45 minutes before I got the chance to ask a sales person some questions because, though it was a slow tuesday night, when I approached a desk or employee they would walk away or look down and try to appear too busy to serve. When I finally did get someone I found out that perhaps they were avoiding me on account of they were afraid that they would not know any answers, for, they essentially did not. No one there was capable of providing help for even the most simple questions (i.E. "how long is the battery life?", or "can it transfer to a computer for editing?") I knew more than THEY did, which was a definate problem when the camera that I ended up buying there the next day could not function when I brought it home. You see, the boy helping me claimed that the open box camera that I purchased would be sold with all of the origional components as its sales card read "great condition", when it should have read "parts missing: no memory card card, no manual, no software". But of course I took their word that the set was complete and brought it home to realize that what was listed above was not there. As if that were not bad enough, 10 minutes after I started to use it that night a large green line appeared over half of the screen and a warning title came on to indicate that the heads needed to be cleaned. The FIRST NIGHT! As I thumbed through the photocopied manual for assistance I quickly found out that this paperwork was for the MISSING software and the manual for the camera was NOT THERE! So the next day I took it back and of course they had to order a manual that would most likely be there in 5 days. As for the camera they said I needed to buy a head cleaning tape. So I bought a pack of tapes that included a cleaninig one and took it home. Wouldn't you know that after trying the cleaner for its maximum 3 times the thing still wouldn't work and I had to bring it in again. So the next day I did and luckily we had purchased the insurance so it could be fixed for no charge. I gave them my camera, was quoted approximately 7-10 days for maintainance and was out the door. What more could I do?
On the tenth day I stopped in and it was not there. They claimed that the repair place was closed for the holiday and that it would be a little longer. Understandable, I guess. Yet what isn't is that after 3 phone calls, 4 more in-store visits and 22 days my product was not back to me. Eventually I found out that it had been "sent to Colorado or California or some place with 'c'" as they said. I ended up returning it and having to keep the 2 tapes and head cleaner as it was opened, though the tapes were not used. Circuit City is nothing but a headache now, as far as I'm concerned. And apparently I fared better than most from their inconsiderate people and non-exhistant service. AS for JVC, the day I retured my camera theman next to me was in a bind over his "newly purchased jvc digital cam with a green line over the screen" on the first day he bought it.
