My one year contract with Nextel had expired at the end of 2004. I waited until 3 months later to change wireless carriers. My last bill from Nextel showed regular charges and 200.00 fee owed for early termination. I telephoned several times and each time
was told more information.
The first time I called, my request was submitted to their billing analysis department and I was told I would hear back from them within 2 to 6 business days. A week and a half later I still had not heard from them.
I called the second time and was told that there was a ticket on my account saying the correction for the 200.00 fees had been denied.
The third time I called I spoke to a supervisor who told me that a letter had been sent to me near the end of my one year contract that gave me the option to renew (they were doing me a favor and keeping my Connect Now 750 Promo Plan rates) or let them know that I did not want to continue with them.
The supervisor said this was "valid" and I been obligated to another year because I did not respond to that letter. I had not even seen the letter that they told me had been sent. They had created a situation in which I needed to take action and respond back within a limited time.
This is not the way to do business. It is deceptive!
