I was a student at UC from 9/97 - 12/00. I was gettin financial aid to pay for college because I can't afford paying out-of-pocket. Well, a family member got ill and I had to leave the school to spend time with my relative who was ill (and eventually died). When you get financial aid, it comes to the school 1st to pay for your classes and tuition and then the school sends you a refund check of what the overage is. I received refund checks to help with expenses because school was my 1st priority, therefore I had to put alot of time in. This means I couldn't work or had to take only part-time jobs of 20 hours per week.
I registered for winter term, they took out the money for tuition and fees and then sent the refund check. I withdrew from classes after they received their money. Tuition and fees that year were around $1400 per quarter. Well, a month goes by and I receive a letter in the mail stating that I owed the school $1400! I know the school got the money and their shouldve been no way that I owed them! To this day, I can't go back to UC to finish school and when I tried to rebuttal them about this matter, they just said it was nothing they could do and I owe the money. I have also talked to over 15 people who attended UC around the same time, who said they got ripped off the same way! This isnt right and I want retribution!
