Southern New Hampshire University
Dishonest Financial Aid practices

Was Charged Tuition cost $1,596 for term 3. I was issued $4,836 in Federal Stafford Loans which the school received on 3/30/09. School Term began on 3/30/09 and I withdrew on 4/21/09 from a class. Refunds were issued on 4/20/09 and the school charged me $1,480.84 for cost of attendance. $3,133.48 was issued to me as a refund of the amount of left over after tuition cost was paid. On 4/27/09 the school returned $3,355.16 to my Lender and now demands that I pay this amount to them for tuition cost since I received $3,133.48 as a balance from my Lender.

The school has a refund policy which clearly states that after the third week of class, no refund would be issued. Yet, the school is charging me almost 93% of the tuition cost they received through Federal Stafford Loan and wants me to pay an additional $115.16 plus $3,355.16 beyond the cost of attendance.

According to the schools' refund policy, I must be charged 100% for tuition beyond the 3rd week of class with no refund on money paid or received after the 3rd week of class. Any money paid and received would not be refunded. Yet, the school broke its contract and charged me 93% for tuition after the 3rd week of class and now wants me to pay all money refunded me by my Lender which the school is not entitled to. The School demands that I pay them the entire refund issued to me by my Lender plus additional cost not factored into the cost of attendance.

This is clearly a breach of contract and questionable student loan practices that has caused my credit rating to be affected and the loss of academic progress since the school will not release any information to transfer to another school. If I settle to pay the school for my tenure, the school would receive in total, $4,836.00 the entire amount of my Stafford Loan when my tuition and cost of attendance was only agreed upon for $1,596 per course, per term.

I also will have to pay double the cost since I took out a student loan which the school received and will not return $1,480.84 of this loan. I was issued a total of $4,836 through Stafford loans for the cost of attendance at SNHU. The school accepted $1,480.84 towards tuition cost and sent the rest back to the Lender. The school now wants me to pay back to the school $3,355.16 beyond tuition cost, money which does not belong to them. I am not responsible for this $3,355.16 owed to the school because that is double the cost of my tenure for the term in which I was enrolled. How can they demand that I pay them money they aren't entitled too?
