Fingerhut is certainly a rip-off company. I signed up for their credit account to order a bed and a lamp. 3 weeks later I still have not received my order but that is not the real issue.
Today I received a confirmation email thanking me for my order of a 19.99 extended service plan, this email did not specify what the service plan was supposed to be for only that it was ordered today and billed to my account.
Well, needless to say, I never ordered this plan nor anything from them today, nor did anyone else on my account! I called customer service right away (from work) and spent the next 20 minutes or so arguing with this woman "Mary" who swore that, yes, I placed that order by calling them myself today. I certainly know I did not place that order and assured her I had been at work all day, at which point she changed her story and said it had been placed online.
I demanded another department and was given another phone # to call which was supposed to deal with grievances. I spoke to "kay" at this number and was given an entirely different story, first, there was no "mary" working in customer service, second, their telemarketing company had apparently phoned my home number and was given authorization at this point from my home to purchase the plan on my account. I insisted there was no one at home at this time and had there been, why would someone else be authorized to utilize my account without my knowledge?
Again, spending another large amount of time debating with "Kay" regarding whether or not there was anyone home to accept this transaction. I got so frustrated after her once more repeating the call had been accepted that I told her it must have been a ghost then, at that point she got me a supervisor.
I was finally assured that the fraud would be investigated and removed from my account. I was told to phone back in a few days during their nornal business hours to verify this had taken place, I was also refused satisfaction when I demanded a "freeze" on my account so it cannot be utilized by anyone, not even myself. It seems to me that this goes on quite a bit with this company, as I was overheard at work and 2 stories very similar to my own from the same company (fraudalent billing) were repeated.
Stay away from Fingerhut! It took me over an hour of work time to even get this never ordered item off of my bill, and still dont know if it has been removed. I was called a liar when I stated I never ordered it and refused satisfaction when I wanted a freeze on my account.
