Huntington Learning Center Manhasset disguises itself as a learning center to help children grow and improve their academic performance. Little do parents know, that when they fork over their $10k, that Huntington is merely a poor excuse for a child care center. From my personal experience teaching there, Huntington is not equipped to teach children of any age. Firstly, they don't seem to have the budget to have pencils, pens or even markers. I would often find myself bringing my own materials to the center because they would not provide them. The center was often dirty and the tables and chairs were of such poor quality that students would find pieces of wood on the floor from the decaying workstations. None of the workbooks were dated past 1990, some were so obsolete and contained information from the 1970's. A typical day of teaching entails sitting with the student, who in turn, fills out these outdated workbooks and then has the teacher check off boxes. This is the "Huntington Technique" that they boast about in their commercials. The tutors are severely underpaid and work in a hostile job environment, making only $12 an hour, while managers make $45,000-$60,000. Parents are not allowed in the tutoring areas during the sessions because the managers do not want them to see the poor conditions and the pathetic excuses for "teaching."
The managerial team at Huntington is inexperienced and uneducated. The "educational director", often wore shirts that were so short, that her tattoos were visible, does not have any educational qualifications in the field, nor is she a diagnostician, who is trained to give the $500-$700 placement tests which parents pay for to place their children in Huntington's Educational program. Basically, Huntington is like human spam, a money making industry based on the premise of exploiting education for the purpose of robbing unknowing parents blind.
