Do not hire, work for, or interact with this incompetent, low performing, irrational, and immoral principal. Principal Flora Greenaway has failed the students, the parents, and the teachers of
Urban Peace Academy. Her lazy, self-righteous, and ineffective approach to leading a school is the number one reason for why the school's graduation rate has dropped from 53% to 31.3%, in a span of about 3 years.
Rather than admitting the fact that her failed policies are in need of improvement, she takes pleasure in scapegoating staff, because her mortgage is more important than the bettering of the students, and her personal and professional integrity.
Her lack of judgement is truly a detriment to the school's progress. She obsessively hands quality teachers unsatisfactory ratings, and as a result, the school's Mathematics and ELA standardized test scores, as well as the overall graduation rate, has continued to decline. This is a diversionary tactic to draw attention away from her utter lack of competence.
Her lack of leadership has caused the students to take her leadership role away, in addition to diminishing the teachers' authority over student behavior. As a result of her poor management skills, students bring electronic devices including: i-pods; psps; cell phones; sidekicks; blackberry's; and i phones, where they openly use them in class. She also allows students to bring, and eat, entire meals to class.
And then Greenaway further shows her lack of leadership, by expecting teachers, who are out-numbered 30 to 1, to stop the students from bringing these electronics and food into the building, when teachers only get to see the kids, once they get to the classrooms that are located in the building. What exactly is Greenaway doing in the hallways, which students walk through, before getting to any classroom?
Any logical principal would create a list of rules, regarding electronics and food, so that the students could be free of distractions, once they get to the classroom. A logical principal would then tell the security guards to confiscate the electronics and meals, if the students were to try and bring the devices or food into building. What does Greenaway do? Nothing, besides blaming others for her lack of policy making.
Flora Greenaway is one of the many Principals, who, in order to obtain her end of year bonuses, pushes teachers to pass kids who have not done anything all year, and who, in some instances, have not shown up to class. She tells teachers to give make-up assignments, for an entire semester's work. This makes students who show up to class and work hard feel as if their hard work is being done in vain. It also reduces and misleads the public into believing that UPA is performing at a higher level than it really is.
Greenaway tells teachers to mark students present, even when the student has never attended class, that day, and had arrived 3 hours late.in addition, she blames teachers for absences and latenesses, when students fail to attend class. She tells the teachers that they are the ones who are supposed to call the parents to tell the students to go to class.
The few times that Greenaway has had colleges speak to students, it has been predatory colleges that are unaccredited and that accept large percentages of minority students, in order to fool them into getting into large amounts of debt.
She delegates people to do her work for her, because she is unable to effectively carry out her position. For example, she hires people to make announcements for her, do her budget for her, and make decisions on all policies for her.in fact, when questioned, she was unable to state her vision for the school. Who do you hold accountable, when the principal of the school does not know her vision for the school? Who do you hold accountable, when the principal hires people to do the majority of her work for her?
Greenaway claims that she wants to provide the students with the best possible education, yet she fires the teachers who helped increase the school's graduation rates and regents scores. As a result, the students have suffered, and the overall performance of the school has dropped to an extreme low. The state standard, for graduation rates is 55%, yet the school's graduation rate is 31.3%. The Math A and ELA scores have remained below the state average, and they have continued to decline, as a result of her poor decision making.
One of the reasons why the school has a high staff turnover-ratio (a statistic which can be verified on inside schools.org) is because she obsessively hands out unsatisfactory ratings to cover up for her own deficiencies. Her unscrupulous behavior has led to her handing out unsatisfactory ratings to teachers who helped increase the school's regents scores and graduation rates.
She handed out unsatisfactory ratings and terminated the licenses of teachers who had families to support, just so that she could get a bonus from her superintendent. Someone who would fire someone who was doing their job, just so that they could get a check, is truly irrational and immoral.
Flora Greenaway's I'll do anything for my mortgage mentaility has led to Urban Peace Academy's downfall. Greenaway's selfish behavior has led to the students not reaching their full potential, and it has led to several quality teachers being terminated from the Board of Education. She clearly lacks a conscience.
It is laughable to hear that such an unqualified, and poorly educated person would be given such an important position. She clearly does not know what she is doing, which is why the school has performed poorly, and why she removed teachers who were helping the school progress, rather than fail, which is what Greenaway has helped the school do.
