My senior year, my parents and I had no clue on how to take on the financial responsibility that lay before us. We were invited to attend a seminar which guaranteed they could find funds for anyone. We were doubtful about the program because of the cost, ONLY $1,040.00. We didn't have a lot of money to toss around but I was desperate and my parents wanted to see me make it to college, so it became, "Well, why not?".
My parents actually bought the program. It was in the spring of 2001 and I would be attending college starting August. At first they were helpful. I figured out how to start the process of filling out financial aid papers. After awhile, it became a pain in the butt. I would receive a new paper from my school and then I had to send it to CFC so THEY could fill it out, then send it back to me, then I would send it back to my school.instead of only taking a week or so to get my financial information turned into my school, it started to take at least a month to return everything to them.
As for the "scholarship search, " they sent outdated scholarship applications for me to fill out and they expected me to return a copy to them. They also wanted a copy of all of my filled out financial papers from my school. When I called CFC, they were very rude and not helpful at all. The whole time I had to deal with them, I was confused and didn't know what was going on.
Finally I was so fed up with the center that I said "screw it" and started to figure out how to fill out forms by myself. I found resources to use closer to my college location. CFC wanted me to use a bank in Illinois and I'm still trying to figure that one out. I finally got everything finished up by myself in August and got the money for school without the help from CFC. I haven't heard from them since.
They "guaranteed" 100% of funds EVERY YEAR and "promised" that they would help me EVERY YEAR. Why haven't they contacted me? Why didn't they even bother contacting me to see how my financial aid situation was going and see if it was complete yet? College Funding Center doesn't give a crap about the students, all they care about is getting their hands of the money of naive people like I once was. After all of the mess they put me through, I realized that all of it is easier to do yourself and there are actually people out there that will help you for FREE.
