This is in reply to Mina in Ohio, and other students done wrong by Phoenix.
1) You are absolutely right in your feelings about the crooked-actions & lies of Phoenix staff Mina. I am 9 months thru my Master's program with them here in Nashville. This is July, 08, I finish in Nov, 08.
2) I discovered the blatant-lies of their counselors the first week I signed up back in August. He induced me on false-grounds claiming I did not have to take a 'statistics course" (I hate stats) and they would "waive' the $45 filing fee. So, I signed up. I told my roomate about their program & he signed up too. I was later tole I "do to have to take a stats course." That was Aug, 28,07. A week later I get a notice from Phoenix/Nashville that my classes were "on hold' until I came down to pay the "filing fee." I phoned my counselor (Kevin Davis) to ask what the H. Was going on. He made up a "blatant lie' why I had to pay it. I told him I was going to file every complaint form I could find on their crooked-school.
I drove there & got into arguments with one staff person after another. It was almost comical. One would argue with me, say excuse me "I'll go find the information", leave, & send another one in. I wrote down the name of everyone (3 of them) telling them to their face I was going to include their name in my valid complaint to their Head office in Phoenix, AZ and to the U.S. Dept. Of Education (Wash, D.C.). I gave them the check for $45, only after one of their top administrators got their head office mail address & phone no. For me. I told her to her face (by their information counter, with others listening) that I would file multiple complaints with every agency I could find on their "crooked operation." She acted stunned, she just stared at me, and I walked out.
(*) 3 days later, my check was returned in my mailbox.
3) My roomate did not start in Aug, not until Sept, so they deducted the $45 filing fee from his financial Aid. He failed to call & check up on it so did not discover it until Nov, by then it was too late to do anything.
(My new counselor-THE ONLY TRUTHFUL/DECENT PERSON I'VE FOUND THERE, told me kevin got fired over that fiasco, months later).
4) Since then, they have screwed me over multiple ways. I have wasted complete days of my life typing valid complaints on their crooked-racket to state of Tennessee agencies & to the U.S. Dept. Of Education in Wash, D.C.
I have sent 10-15 pgs of complaints & copies of docs to TERRY GODDARD, Arizona Attorney General on them (since their Head office is in Phoenix, AZ). I have a FILE # there. Don't recall the number (I'm not at home typing, at a diff. University/library-computer). You can send them complaints & ask them to add it to the complaint file on univ. Of Phoenix.
ARIZONA ATTORNEY GENERAL, (consumer complaints), 1275 W. WASHINGTON, PHOENIX, AZ (85007), that's a start. Also go online, Google search for the website of the U.S. Dept of education. Search around it & you will find an ONLINE COMPLAINT FORM to fill out. Do it. It will show your complaint form when done & can print a copy. Also, days later they will email you acknowledgement of receipt of it & send you a copy of it. PRINT COPIES OF IT & attach copies of that complaint to any others you mail off.
Yes, it takes hours of work unfortunately.
A) U.S. Dept of Education requires we receive so many hours of instruction each semester to qualify for the Degree (same for undergraduates in all universities). My classes are 6-weeks long, one night a week, from 6-10 pm. That is 6 x 4 = 24 hrs of instruction per course. But we don't get it cause their crooked-instructors usually let us out at 9 pm, cheating us out of 1 hour of instruction a week! We only get 18-20 hours instruction "max." per 6-week course.
at $1,580 per 6-week course, $1,580/ 24 hours in ea. Course = $65 an hour. (*) we are cheated out of 4-6 hours instruction each 6-week course to a cost per student of $380 (almost $400 per student) per ea. 6-week course, in BLATANT VIOLATION OF U.S. Dept. OF EDUCATION RULES & THE STATE LAW WHEREEVER YOUR CAMPUS IS ("if" they do the same 'trick technique" at your campus). 15 students in ea. Course (on avg) is 15 x $380 = $5700 (almost $6000) they are BLATANTLY RIPPING-OFF FROM EACH 6-WEEK COURSE, MONTH AFTER MONTH AFTER MONTH!
I have typed complaints about this to several agencies, no significant comment on it yet. My experience is: it is hard to get any agency to start an investigation on them cause Phoenix is so big, they "smooze' with state dignitaries & have been (probably) "DONATING FUNDS TO DIFF. CAUSES (I can only suspect) (a "writeoff" for them, never comes out of their pocket) and have been "MASTERS OF LIEING" FOR YEARS NOW (submitting lies on documents back against you) (that is not theory-I have written proof of their Phoenix. Az staff "lieing outright" in a letter to the Ariz. Atty. Gen as rebuttal to one of my complaints on them)
I could go on for pages but fear I'll run out of room soon.
5) A CLASS ACTION?
I would give time & effort to proceed on one, if someone can get a law firm interested in doing it. There are complaints on Phoenix on this site from across the nation. I only know one legal firm big enough to do it, in florida. I'm writing to them soon. It's very time involving to craft a letter to them. You have to lay it out like an expert, create brief "exhibits' to attach, etc. It's an all-day project.
I can't leave my email here in case it gets flooded over with replys, I'm very busy. I will leave a P.O. Box as a contact in the hope no screwballs will waste my time. If a few persons want to spend some minutes to type a 1-2 pg letter enumerating the 'specific acts' done against them (lies, fraud, misrepresentations, deceit, etc) & mail it to me [TYPED ONLY]. I'll include them with the letter I'm slowly drafting to send the Fl. Law firm seeking representation as a CLASS ACTION. Recognize, this is a LONG-SHOT.
I do NOT have time to answer anyone, unless a miracle happened & the law firm took it on. Only in that case would I contact persons back.

6) univ. Of phoenix is a rotten bunch of consistent liars (at least they are at the nashville-campus) (i can state that as i have "proof" of it, to my face & in writing) their degrees are [not] worth as much as ground-schools universities & they lie about it.
They are ripping-off (defrauding) students nationwide every month by their secret biased-in-their-favor policy, and not teaching all the hours they charge you for!
7) I found a website for the U.S. Dept of Education (search every link possible) where it showed a REPORT ON PHOENIX DONE BY THE US Dept Educ about 2005 wherein they said Phoenix WAS GUILTY OF NUMEROUS DEPT OF EDUC RULES VIOLATIONS from paying their counselors extra-$ to recruit students, bribing their counselors to lie with free trips, bonuses, etc, and all kinds of other violations.
(&) Type the info into google, you might find it. (I'm not at home so can't put my hands on it).
8) GOOGLE SEARCH: LAWSUITS ON UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX;
You may pull up the current suit against them by some former counselors in Calif who have an attorney in S. Francisco (If I recall right) who blew the whistle on Phoenix for bribing them & bragging about "flying under the Radar of the Dept of Education rules", etc. What's my point? This!
(*) there is considerable [proof already available] for the f.B.I. TO INVESTIGATE (POSSIBLE) RICO-ACT VIOLATIONS (Racketeering Acts across state lines gives the F.B.I. Jurisdiction to investigate & prosecute). So, this is a very big issue!
way bigger than anyone on this site has posted b-4, because they are not the same researcher. MY FELLOW STUDENTS ARE BEING RIPPED-OFF FOR A (possible) $MILLION A MONTH (easy) BY THIS PROBABLY-CROOKED BUSINESS; and all the agencies we complain to just keep on letting them get away with it.
9) Semi-Final Point: Univ. Of Phoenix is the "Enron" of the Online Universities!
10) final point: likewise, phoenix (maybe) defrauding the U.S. Dept of education out of $millions on false pretenses, cause the students never get all the education (instructional hours) they are supposed to receive (at $65 an hour).
How do you think they got to be the BIGGEST ONLINE UNIV.in THE NATION? BY (POSSIBLY, OR PROBABLY) "RIPPING-OFF" STUDENTS & THE U.S. Dept of educ. (POSSIBLY?) FOR $MILLIONS A MONTH, YEAR AFTER YEAR AFTER YEAR!
Ok, I gave this an hour, hope I gave the rest of you some serious food for thought. (*) I have stacks of complaints I've filed on these BUMS in my living room. No agency will adequately investigate them, yet.
I hope & prey a good attorney will read this, realize I've done a ton of research on this crooked - business and will contact me about pursuing a class Action, its what we need, and I'm talking about trying to get back the $100 MILLION THEY HAVE (probably) DEFRAUDED STUDENTS OUT OF IN THE LAST 10 YEARS! (could it be more? They have been in business since 1976, could it be $500 Million?).
