I was contacted by the company to teach a student in her home. It was an emergency and I was urged to begin at once. I was sent all the relevant materials and filled out all my forms, returning them on time so that I could begin. Perhaps I should have been more alarmed when the client told me that Language Trainers had been dragging its feet on finding her a tutor for over 2 months, but I was told that they had trouble finding someone to do the job.
I taught for a month and at the end of that month, I sent in my invoice, signed attendance and report. When 2 weeks had passed without a check, I contacted Language Trainers. They eventually e-mailed me to let me know that my invoice was not properly formatted in that it did not state that I was responsible for my own taxes (funny, I thought the tax forms I signed for them told them that.) They also said that the invoice didn't have the teaching dates and times on it. I was never told that it had to have that material since I was sending in a signed attendance log that did have that material. I pointed this out and was told that they would get a check to me with the invoice as it was. They didn't and when I inquired again I was told that it was because my invoice had not been corrected. I was then sent a new packet of materials including a sample invoice, which I then modified with all the information they claimed to need.
That was sent off 2 weeks ago and, true to form, I am still waiting for a check. I am looking forward to the next excuse. I wonder what it will be, that my invoice was written in English instead of Esperanto or some other ridiculous dodge like that.
In my opinion, these people are stealing the labor of honest teachers and I would caution anyone against working for this company—ever. I can only hope that enough of us will come forward that a class action suit can be filed against them.
