Amex Movers
Scammed and Ripped Off

I received a call from Jay at Amex movers with a quote on a local move here in Houston. The quote was $65 and hour for two men with a minimum of 4 hours. I had to pay a $100 deposit by credit card. I was told that there would be no travel charge, no fuel charge and no taxes. It was never explained to me that I would be charged to have my furniture wrapped nor that I would be charged for tape. I was asked if I had a pool table or piano to move and responded "no". I was told that there was an extra charge for those heavy items. On the day of the move, the movers arrived (two very small men) and had my husband sign all kinds of paperwork. When it came to take apart the beds, we were told that they did not have any tools. My husband loaned them his tools kit. It took them about two hours to get the truck loaded. They then told us that they needed to take a lunch break and after they finished eating they would drop off the furniture. When they arrived at the drop off location which was about 10 minutes from the pick up location, the man named Mike handed my husband a sheet of paper with numbers written on it that stated that we had to pay a total amount of $1000 before they could unload the truck. We were being charged for a dresser, an entertainment center, fuel, travel, plastic wrap, tape, stairs and a few other things. My husband had the driver call the manager who then said that he wouldn't charge for the dresser and entertainment center but would charge for everything else. We ended up paying $340 in cash and $360 on my credit card. So that's a total of $800 already. Also, after they charged the $360, they went back and charged an additional $100 dollars which brings the total to $900 for a move that was a ten minute drive from one destination to the other. After they unloaded the truck, they left without us noticing that they were gone. We received no receipts and none of the tools that they borrowed. When we tried calling, noone would answer the phones. We have been trying to contact these people for about four days now with no success. I have decided to file theft charges on the driver that borrowed the tools. My bank actually declined the extra $100 dollar charge because of non proof of the authorization by the company.
