Father And Son Moving And Storage & Neighbors Moving And Storage snuck in extra fees, moved slow, and were unprepared

I called Father and Son Moving and Storage and received a quote for around $600-$700 to move my family. I gave them a detailed and complete list of each piece of furniture that was to be moved (39 items total). Feeling ambitious and anxious to get moved, my husband and I ended up renting a Uhaul truck a few days before the scheduled move and we (with the help of 6 guys) moved almost everything in one 6 hour day. I called Father and Son two days before the scheduled move and told them that I wouldn't have as much to move as originally planned, and in fact only had 15 items. They assured me this would not be a problem and I confirmed my 9 am moving time for 2 days later.

We thought everything would be fine, but on moving day our experience quickly turned ridiculous! First, the movers arrived at the wrong time. Second, the moving truck and the movers were not from Father and Son Moving and Storage.instead they were from Neighbors Moving And Storage, which they assured me was a sister company of Father and Son. Third, the movers were totally unprepared. They did not have any tools on their trucks, so when they needed to take 2 bed frames and an office set apart, they had no way to do so. One of the men wondered around looking like a lost puppy because he couldn't find any tools. I asked him why he didn't have any on his truck, to which he replied, uh, ya, normally we would and all but we just aint got any today. What?!?!

We had 15 total pieces of furniture (a bedroom set, piano, desk set, 2 kids bookshelves, a kids bed frame, rocking chair, bbq, etc) that we needed Father and Son to load into their truck and move for us. It literally (this is not an exaggeration) took them from 8:45 am to 12:15 am to pack 15 items!!! That is 3.5 hours to load 15 items!!! I cannot tell you how SLOW they were moving! Once the truck was loaded it took them an hour to drive to our new home (only 15 miles away). When they finally arrived at the new home, they were slow unloading and they assembled the desk set incorrectly and when asked to move it never did so. After 2 hours of unloading, they finally finished and presented the contract to my husband, who by this time was late for a meeting and was trying to rush out the door. He quickly signed and left. Minutes later they approach me, haggling for more money.

After the movers left I looked at the contract and the total amount billed to us was $800!!! For 15 items!!! The snuck in an 18% gas surcharge that was never disclosed to me when I got a quote from them. They also charged us $50 for shrink wrap that we didn't ask for! I immediately called the Father and Son main office and asked to speak to a manager. It only got more ridiculous at this point. I was shuffled around from one person to another before I finally got Vinny. Dealing with Vinny was a complete joke. I explained to him that his movers were unprepared and slow and that I was charged for items I was not originally quoted. He sat in silence. Literally. No response. I told him again that I was unhappy with the service I received and I needed to be refunded for the gas surcharge ($100) and the shrink wrap ($50). He said he was unable to help me and hung up. So, I decided to call the main number at Father and Son and get a quote for exactly what was moved that day. I talked with a nice man who told me that it should cost around $350 to move my 15 items. He assured me there were no hidden charges like other moving companies charged. No gas surcharge I asked. Absolutely not, he assured me.

I then hung up and called back and talked to Vinny again. I told him that I had just received a quote for my 15 items at $350, yet I was charged $800 that day. Silence again. No response. I went over everything with him again and he came up with one excuse after another for his movers being slow and unprepared. He finally said he'd credit me 10%. Shocking, the check never arrived in the mail. A week later my husband called and talked to Vinny. More silence. More incompetence. Vinny was rude and lacked any sort of ability to serve his clients. His silent response eventually turned argumentative.

Please beware of Father and Son Moving and Storage, as well as Neighbors Moving and Storage. They share the same address and its clear that (after reading other reviews) they both provide awful service. I feel completely taken advantage of and ripped off.
