I purchased a HD DVD player for my xbox360 from Best Buy. The very next day they announced that the format was dead and would be discontinued. Best Buy knew that they were going to drop the product line even before the announcement (my research turned up) so I took the drive back with the original packaging. I did remove the UPC because I was sending out for the free DVD movies. I talked with the person at the return counter that was very rude. I talked with the store manager who told me that it was the company's policy not to take returns back without the UPC. I asked him where was this posted in the store or printed on the receipt or if customers are told this. He could not show me any documentation. So I called the so called customer service hot line and they left me on hold for over 1 hour switched me around to several different people before telling me that it was not posted anywhere. I told them I didn't even want my money back I would find another item and it was going to be a IPOD touch and i would have been paying $299 additional. The store manager refused my return and so did corporate. I admit I did remove the UPC but I have purchased many open box items from best buy missing the UPC. Here is my issue Its not posted anywhere in the store or on the receipt or anywhere stating a missing UPC will cancel out your chances of getting a refund or a exchange. I even purchased the warranty. Best Buy advertises that they will toke back a product if you are not satisfied as long as you have the receipt. Best Buy does not care about customer service just the customers money I will never shop there again and have told 100s of people not to shop there. We need to send a message to all retailers who deceive the consumer that we will not tolerate it and will boycott them. Lets send Best Buy a message that they are not to big where they cannot be put out of business join the boycott and show best buy they need us allot more than we need them.
