Complaint / Review
United Collections Bureau, UCB
Violator of Fair Debt Collections Act

Be very carefull of this company,

This morning I received an email from an old co-worker (2 years ago) that she received a detailed voice mail from a Mr. Geezer (not sure of spelling) of UBC. This included a case number, that the call was pertaining to a debt and with who, the amount and my social security number. The greeting on her voice mail clearly states her name. This is a violation as a collector can not share any information other than with you. I promptly called the number that was passed on to me. I was conected to Mr. Geezer and requested a correct spelling of his name which he refused to provided unless I gave him my case number. I asked why since he shared my personal info with someone else. This led to a very heated discussion where I was aqsked if I wanted to speak to a manager. What I got was a "Floor Supervisor". I asked why Mr. Geezer shared my info on a voice mail that clearly wasn't mine and really never got answer to this. Dawn the floor supervisor was more interested in discussing my payment. I turned it back to the unauthorized sharing of information and was told she would talk to him and turned it back to the debt and settlement options. I very firmly told here since she confirmed my address she could mail any settlement offers there. Again this was not the response she was looking for and reiterated that she was looking at my credit report and she could give me options to save my credit. I again stated "since you obviously have my home address that she could mail it to me." She stated since I wouldn't discuss this it would reported as a refusal to pay to the creditor. I said whatever and hung up. I will now probably be sued by the creditor.

This company is in violation of the FDCA.
1. Can not share any info with anyone but you.
2. When you request contact in writing only that is what it is suppose to be not a threat that it will be reported as refusal to pay.
3. There is suppose to be a 30 day window to dispute debt. I have not received anything at all from this company at this point.

It looks like this company works solely off scare tactics and when you push back they get angry and retaliate. Don't let them get away with sharing your info with anyone. Make them put everything in writing.
