Stay away from them! It is another door-to-door sales scheme, not a real job

I very recently interviewed with The Titan Group and met (interviewed) with Mark Kernan. Originally, I scheduled the interview with the receptionist/assistant, Jamie Trokey a week prior to my interview, thinking that I was interviewing for a good job, working either in inside sales or customer service.

When I arrived to the interview, I filled out their job application form in the reception room. The office and the reception room looked pretty upscale. Along with the company's fancy web site (which I check out before the interview), all looked pretty good, upon my first impressions.in the reception room, there were 3 or more other people also waiting for an interview. My initial reaction was surprise - either 1. They are hiring a lot of people, 2. There must be many applicants for the job that I was applying for, or 3. Something is "fishy" and not right-perhaps a scheme or some sort. During the course of my interview, I would find out that the reason for so many interviewees is the aforementioned reason #3.

Shortly after completing the application and waiting for the previous interview to end, Mark Kernan came out to greet me in the reception room and to interview with me in the office. During the interview, he talked about how successful the company is, showed me samples of their promotional marketing products, which are coupon sheets that are for sale, and told me how I can make a lot of money and get promoted quickly. Further into the interview, Mr. Kernan talked about this elaborate "business model" that he has and his "system" for success, drawing a few diagrams, as he was explaining it to me. He was very enthusiastic and intended to get me all "pumped up" and excited to make a lot of money and be in management so that I will jump aboard.

After I listened to his sales pitch about the company and the "system" he has in place, I asked him a few questions and after getting to the bottom of it, cutting to the chase, this "job" turned out to simply be a door-to-door sales job that is all commission-based pay with the potential of fast-track promotion to management. It reminds me of one of these Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) schemes like Amway or Quixstar, playing on one's emotions and impulses to get rich with a business plan that sounds good but in reality does not work, except for the very few exceptions.

At the end of the interview, Mr. Kernan told me that he has over 20 other people to interview that day and that he will select 5 of these interviewees for a 2nd interview by the end of the day. He also told me that the 2nd interview will involve spending the entire work day with one of the "leaders" for me to completely understand and to know exactly what the job is really about. I left the interview with a lot of suspicions and doubts about the company and the job and felt that I was deceived. What I thought was a decent marketing job turned out to be a door-to-door sales job, after peeling away the veneer of the nice office and their fancy web site!

Later on in the same evening, Mr. Kernan called me and told me that I am one of the lucky 5 interviewees to have been been selected for the 2nd interview and he then told me to arrange to be there at 9:00 AM the next day. I subsequently told him that I will pass on this "opportunity" and thus declined the 2nd interview because of my gut feelings.

I am glad that I did not go to the 2nd interview and that my gut feelings were right. From another posting on this company, this person told about the 2nd interview, where you go along with other associates doing door-to-door sales of the coupon sheets. Thank God that I did not go out doing a of door-to-door sales, especially in the bitter cold winter weather!

The bottom line is that if you are contacted by The Titan Group, beware of what you are getting into. If door-to-door sales appeals to you, it may be a good opportunity. If you are looking for a steady, paying, legitimate job, then stay away from this company and do not interview with them-it would be just a waste of your time.
