I have been dealing with Alliance One for a number of years now, mostly for parking tickets, and my main frustration is that they don't report your payments to the original creditor / entity in a timely or accurate manner.
The main problem is that they are a collection agency for an enitity like King County, WA., where things like moving violation & parking tickets can seriously hamper your efforts to resolve your Drivers license or vehicle registration issues.
I have proof of payment for MANY tickets that Washington DMV still shows as unresolved, and I have even been labled a "scofflaw" by the meter maids in Seattle for "unpaid" tickets that are, in fact, paid.in this situation, the meter maid issues you a parking ticket, and then, a "scofflaw" ticket, which then results in my vehicle being towed. Of course, then the towing company who has a contract with City of Seattle gets to make a quick $200.00 (at least) in impound fees as well.
From what I understand about other complaints about this company (on both this website and with the Attorney General) what they overcharge in fees and interest is ludicrous and borderline illegal. I would love to talk with a few people who are interested in generating enough buzz to get a class action suit started against these criminals, (read up on the San Diego couple who are still trying to keep their fingers in the Alliance One pie) and put a stop to the damage they inflict upon other peoples lives.
