Complaint / Review
Providian National Bank
Washington Mutual Misleading Credit Reporting

I was a credit card holder with Providian/Washington Mutual for many years, with a 99% payment record. (I was late with a couple of payments while in school "4 years ago"). I paid off my account in April for the amount of $2,895.00, which of course, I can prove.in June of I tried to pay for something at PayPal with the card. It was rejected (account was still open). I thought well maybe it expired or something. I knew the account was paid off and didn't worry about it. I used another card to pay for the item.

Well, the charge did go through at Providian, so the ebay seller got paid twice for the item. I didn't know that at the time, and didn't worry about my Providian card for payments. When Providian sent me mail, I just thought it was checks from them encouraging me to spend money, or just a statement saying a zero balance. Well, Providian closed my account for $32.00 in the beginning of July.

When I went to look at the account, it said closed and a balance of $32.00. I called them in panic trying to find out why it was closed, and what the charge for $32.00 was. I was told by Providian's attorneys that I didn't pay my bill, and that they can close my account for any darn reason they feel like closing it for. Totally rude and low-class. She did not care about what happened, why, where, nothing. I went back and tried to pay the $32.00, and it was gone saying the balance was zero. I called again, and they said it was written off. Okay. They wouldn't let me pay it. Why were they so eager to get rid of an interest payer? If you ask me, something is wrong with those people. My record was sterling. I am the lady who pays my bills between the 1st and the 5th of every month even when they are due on the 27th like Providian. I never went over my limit. Perfect customer.

Guess what they did then. They reported me to the Credit Bureau as "Account closed" High balance $2,895.00. Guess what the result of that was. My line of credit was cut off with another company, and now another one of my other cards has been cancelled for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Remember that my credit history at the credit bureaus is sterling. Never late. Never over credit limits. It's beautiful, at least it was.

Oh, and I forgot to mention this was right when I was trying to start my business. What Providian has done to me is ruined my beautiful credit and are in the process of ruining my life. The whole thing was caused by an error at PayPal and me not opening my mail. If I worked at Providian, I would have looked at this account and thought, "Hmm, this woman has been a wonderful customer for many years, she just paid us $2,895.00 in April of and now is not responding to a $32.00 bill"? Something is wrong here. We need to talk to this lady. She is either in the hospital or is dead. But no, they just sent 2 letters saying they were going to close my account, but never contacted me by email or phone. I don't understand this. Aren't those people smart enough to think about what they are seeing on paper? Can't they tell a good customer from a bad one? Don't they want their interest?

Boy, I should have opened my mail. That is the lesson here no matter what. The whole point of this letter though is the misleading way that they reported it to the credit bureau and for the amount. They made it look like it was closed for $2,895.00 instead of $32.00. These people have no customer loyalty whatsoever. They could care less. I have filed a complaint with the Fair Credit Reporting Bureau, and if I can sue them for ruining my credit and my life at this point, I will. These people are vultures who don't care about their customers and will hurt them if they get the chance. Providian National Bank's policies are dangerous to the consumer, and that is the truth. God, I hope I can get into a court room with those people. Providian is in the process of destroying my life.
