Out of the blue I get a letter from these jerks telling me I owe them $1382. The original debt was back in the mid 90's. I don't even remember what I bought on-line, but it sure as hell didn't cost more than a couple hundred, tops.
Apparently the company I owed (Baily Banks Biddle) ran up several late fees, during which time I was either living in Mexico, or in prison for two years and had no idea what was going on, and then sold it to Asset. It seems obvious that the bill is so old and so bogusly inflated, that Asset is offering to settle for 50% less on their first attempt to collect.
It will be a cold day in hell before I pay these bloodsuckers a penny more than the original price of whatever it was that I bought plus a reasonable late fee.
I would contact them and offer this, but from all the reports I'm reading about these clowns, they would decline the offer and ratchet up their threatening efforts to collect, now that they know my address.
If anyone can offer some insight, I'd like to hear it
