Sent to collections after refusal of Leave of Absence Ripoff

I enrolled in UOP after a very HARD sell in April of '04. As it happens, I lost my job not a week after enrolling.By July of '04 I moved from Florida to NY.

I tried to keep up with the classes using computer access at an internet cafe and then at my temporary jobs. However, it became too expensive and required too much use of the computers at the various contract jobs, so I requested a leave of absence until I could have my computer shipped to me in Jan. Of 2005.

Yet again, however, that didn't work out when my computer arrived via UPS and it was hopelessly damaged. When I requested additional time to get situated, I was wholly ignored.

Now I just received a letter (sent originally to my former Florida address) saying a collection agency on behalf of California is going to GARNISH my wages for the student loan taken out to attend UOP Online.

If if weren't for the bad luck of having a thorougly unprofessional, politcally partisan instructor in my second class, as well as having been ignored when I wanted to extend my leave of absence, I wouldn't be so shocked that UOP has the temerity to send the loan to collections.

It isn't as if I wanted to quit. I wanted to finish, but I needed a computer and at that time had neither the money fix mine, nor access to a free one.

Apparently they cared more about being paid for class time & resources I didn't use than actually assisting a student who was clearly have a difficult time with the vagaries of life that could happen to anyone.
