Holding our payments

Our Aug pymts (we have a 1st & 2nd mtg w/them) have not been applied. They said they never got the big one but they were in the same envelope together as always, and I got delivery confirmation on it. They have been giving us the run around for 2 months and also have not cashed the checks for Sept. They told me last wk everything was fine. They would send apology letter and update everything. Today (sat) they call and say everything is still wrong and the email I got said they don't have our pymt.

I told my husband back Aug I think they are trying to scam us. I have never like this company and now I go online and type in their name with complaints after it and find out I probably couldnt have chosen a worse company. What to do? I believe they are trying to hold our checks long enough to make it appear that we have not paid on either mtg. What can I do? Help!!!
