My husband ordered an expensive digital camera from Priceit4less at well below the retail price of $1000.00. It was priced at $789.00 plus shipping. He got a printout form our original order, and one in our inbox from them too.
Shortly after ordering it he got a call back strong arming us to buy a kit of acccessories to go with the camera... A Sony DCS-F707. He declined... They pushed... He declined again and again, they pushed harder. Finally he said he had to go to a meeting and hung up. Three days later the camera arrived, accessories and all!
The invoice enclosed was not for thr $803.99 we expected, but for $1283.- the accessories and the cost of the shipping and had raised the amount charged to our account more that $483!!
My husband called a couple of times, they kept him on hold an interminable time and then flatly refused to take just the accessories back, they said he needed to return the whole package, even though the accessores were pure and simple JUNK, of relatively no values as photographic equipment. This went on for a couple of days.
I'm the head of Customer Relations for a large company, I'm also from North Jersey, and more accustomed to dealing with pushy New Yorkers than he was civil Southerner that he is... I told my husband that I would now handle it.
I called many many times: I held, I was disconnected, I called back again and again I spoke to all the thugs working there. They are the ruders most uncaring and callous men, roguh as they can be, THUGS is too good a word for them..
Finally I told them that as they knew we'd charged the camera on my American Express card... THANK GOD FOR AMEX!
DID YOU KNOW THAT THEY WILL CREDIT YOUR ACCOUNT AND GO AFTER THE CREDIT YOU ARE OWED ON YOUR BEHALF??? It doesn't say 'member since' on that card for nothing... How do I know? Well, we've had the card for 30 years.
So I finally told "Mike" the head of Customer Service there, I was going to do the following: Report them to the Attorney General of New York State, the Consumer Advocate in New York City, NBC, ABC, CBS, Sixty Minutes, Consumer Reports and anyone else I could think of. And the I'd disputed the amount charged to me w/o my permission with American Express.
Finally they agreed to take back the Camera Kit, w/o a restocking fee, oh yes, did I say it was 20%?! The flatly refused to sell me the camera without the junky acccessories... Who cared at that point? I packed it all up, sent it back insured for $1283,00 delivery confirmation etc... And waited... The credit hit my American Express card within 1 month.
PS: we reordered another of the same camera from World Trade Digital, the price was $769.00 plus shipping of $20. They said 2-3 weeks, that was March 22, it never came, despite calls etc, it was always something, back order, in customs etc... We cancelled the order, adn will most likel not buy another camera online or from an ad, for the stress involved, $1000 for the camera sounds better all the time!
