Amerigo Moving Company
Moving company that defrauds, overcharges, intentionally damages items and try to hold your items hostage until you pay an over-inflated fee to have your items finally delivered to your residence. Ripoff

On January 20 Amerigo Moving Company was hired by my husband and I to pick up our belongings from Stone Mountain, Georgia to be delivered to our new home in Detroit, MI. We had made this reservation with the company as early as September when it was discovered that we would need to relocate.

After confiming our move with Amerigo on serveral occassions, which included adding and subtracting items from our original estimate, it was determined that we would move 1170 cuft of items for a price of $3100. When the movers arrived at our home, which as on a Sunday morning when other competitors were closed, the drivers informed us that we had over 2000 cuft of items and our new total would be $5300. (how he could determine this without proper measurement?) My husband and I actually flew in for this move and had to had the items moved for an impeding sale on that Friday with our return flight leaving that eveving, so our backs were against the wall.

The agreement to move the items included a final weight tally after the items were weighed and the paperwork return to the corporate office. The Manager also claimed that we would receive a discount on our packing supplies (which much of the items were pre-packed with our own boxes).

When I contacted the office on Monday, they still did not have a final total. When we finally received the toatl the bill was $6200 with packing supplies. I did't receive the discount that they had promised and they totally overcharged us on the packing supplies and and move.

We then questioned the manager on the amounts and he argued, threatend us, and held our items hostage. We demanded that they provide weight receipts for the load to justify because industry standard convert weight to cuft by dividing the lbs by 7.

When we finally received our items, which we believed were intentionally destroyed, over 70% of items were damaged—the company's reply was "we have insurance". Yeah right which only pays. 60/lb (its amazing how they can determine the weight in this case) which only amounted to $748 to us (mind you they destroyed a flat screen tv and 36in TV, dining room furniture which was brand new, pictures, a box which was soaked in gasoline from the lawnmower stored on top). The storage facility that received our goods, who were actually to deliver the items to our home since we had not yet closed, never seen anything like it. When the items were delivered to our home by the other moving company, they confirmed that the items were no where near the volume of 2,000 cuft that Amerigo claimed it to be. We finally sent the claim to their insurance adjusters who claim that Amerigo is responsible for sending us the payment. This was sent in April and to date we have not received a check from Amerigo Moving Company.

I've tried to contact Amerigo Moving Company and Anthem Claim Management and I continue to get a recorded message. Please avoid this company if they are still in business. My hope is to locate some of the other victims so that we may file a class action suit against this repeat offender.
