New World Movers
Scam

Do not move with this fraudulent company.

1) They flat out lie to you about costs (even if they give you things in writing) and then try to rip you off on the day of the move.

New World charged us nearly $1700 in extra fees that they did not tell us about - before even moving a thing. We told the girl in the office (her name was Kim, do not trust anything she says) all the specifics of our move... Flights of stairs involved, layout of the places, items to be moved, etc. We were repeatedly promised that the estimate of $70/hr included everything except packing supplies. We even had these promises in writing. On the day of the move when the movers got there they told us that they would charge us $225 for each flight of stairs in our move. We had 4 total flights, so that was $900 in extra fees right of the bat. (we had expected to spend $500-$600 total).

We also told New World that we would have to make 2 additional stops because we had to drop a couple of items off at my wife's mother's house and dad's house. Both these stops were very close to our new home and involved only a couple items that had to be dropped off on the front porch. We were specifically told there was no additional charge for these stops - apart from the extra time it might take. On the day the movers got there they told us each stop would be $250, for an extra $500 in ripoff fees.

Furthermore, we were specifically told that moving blankets would be provided free of charge (we had this promise in writing). On the day of the move we were told each moving blanket would cost $6, and that they would need to use about 50 of them total - an extra $300 in ripoff.

2) They will not move your furniture without using their own packaging supplies - supplies that are marked up 30x-50x what they would cost you to buy them yourself.

We packed all our items and wrapped any items that would need to be protected - but New World would not move them without using their own supplies. We were trying to make things go as quickly as possible to keep our costs down. For example, we packed the TV in bubble wrap and boxed it. When the movers got there they told us they would not move the TV without packaging it in their own supplies. Their box cost $50; the box we bought at Home Depot was the same size and cost us 97 cents. Bubble wrap and tape cost between $40-$100/roll.

In short, this company preys on innocent people. They get them on the day of their move, when the customer has no bargaining power (b/c all the belongings are in boxes and they need to be out of their apartment on that day), and they try to rip them off. Do not use this company. You will be sorry if you do.
