30-day Free Trial is a SCAM. Unauthorized Charges to AMEX Card

I signed up for the "Free" 30 day trial of their credit monitoring service during the last week of April. I just wanted to check my credit reports and planned to cancel before the end of the free trial period.

On May 6 I sent a registered letter to the cancellation address that is listed in the Terms and Conditions. (I didn't call because a.) the telephone number seems odd... It has an extra digit, and b.) I didn't want to suffer the hard sell.

Anyway, monthly charges for $11.99 showed up on my May and June statements. (I waited this long to call because I figured the May charge would be credited back by my June statement.)

When it hadn't, today I called the (correct) number 1-866-617-1993 and tried to cancel the service and get credit for the two months of charges. (Oddly, I was unable to log onto my credit monitor service after the middle of May but I was still being billed.)

The hard-sell person refused to credit my account saying that "the product" was non-refundable. She insisted that my service was still active even though I was unable to log-oneven while we were on the phone. She denied that her company ever received my letter.

No big surprise, though! I had to call Amex (American Express) and dispute the charges. Now I have to do the affidavit routine, send a copy of my letter to Amex, etc.

Realistically, I kinda figured that this would happen still. I played by THEIR rules and it's still a RIPOFF!
