We have a small vending business and were approached by a very convincing sales rep who asked if we had ever thought about using a credit card machine to increase sales. We had not, and so he proceeded to tell us about the thousands he had made in a business he owned himself. He visited us several times and each time seemed very honest and upfront. He showed us pictures of businesses he had sold visa credit card machines to in our area.
When we decided to go ahead with it, suddenly, the signing of the contract became very urgent. He met me at my work and which added to the pressure and of course I did not read to entire 10 page contract. I believed him when he told me we could get out of it after a couple of months if we didn't like it. I believed him when he said "let's see if you get approved first". Then supposedly, we could decide if we really wanted to proceed with the contract and machine. All the pages I signed were pink, and the last one was the killer one. It had CIT hidden in the upper left corner and he had it pinched so I wouldn't see it. This was the one with the "uncancelable lease" statement in it.
After we realized what we had done (after $59.95 and $20.00 was being deducted from my bank account each month) we began a quest to stop this craziness. Roy "Bud" Sanville (our sales rep) was very sympathetic. He told us HE would refund our money (ha ha) and cancel the lease. Meanwhile, we never received the credit card machine and he told us the way he was going to recoupe our losses was to sell the machine to someone else. Then he could cancel the lease.
We waited, only to find CIT and Retreiver Payment Systems continuing to deduct money from out bank account each month. We began calling "Bud" but he had dissappeared. He would hang up on me and not return my calls. I finally called Retreiver and they emailed "Bud" and he did get back to them. But we still are waiting to confirm if the lease has been cancelled.
