PayPal Deception
I had a nightmarish two weeks trying to claim money owed to me. The buyer of my item paid me right away, but it took forever to receive the credit in my PayPal account. First they would not send a link or code to confirm my email address.
Days later, and after countless hours of writing emails and making phone calls to customer support, I got my address confirmed, only to discover the account had been locked. Days later, and with no satisfactory response as to why it was locked, they unlocked it.
Thinking I was home free, I clicked on the link to claim my money, and it led me to a page that said I should upgrade my account to a costlier one. There is a button to accept and one to deny. I clicked on the deny button, believing I had merely denied the upgrade, and found they had canceled my claim since I had denied receiving payment. Right, I really wanted that.
Days went by, and even after I gave up and upgraded the account, they were still determined not to let me have the money. Luckily for me, the buyer worked with me and we managed to redo the transaction from the start.
This was the most frustrating time I have had in years. The site where you accept or deny the upgrade was boldly deceptive. If that is not fraud or even extortion, I do not know what is.
