I visited Terre Haute, IN Menards on March 24 to buy a weedeater mower. They had 2 on a top shelf in heavily damaged boxes. After waiting several minutes I had to seek out customer service for help to find the price and see if there were any in good boxes.
First box was so damaged that the instructions was so soiled you could say they were not fit to be in the box.
2nd box was a little bit better but on top of the box the price was listed for $199.96. This was not a tag stating Menard's cost but an actual price tag. Tag on shelf listed price as $249.99 with an arrow pointing up (still not positive tag matched box) because there was nothing on the box to match it too. I asked what the price was and the first employee said she didn't know but she would check. Came back with $249.99 price.
I then asked why was it tagged $199.96, she said she didn't know but she would check. Then another girl came over and said correct price is $249.99. We then asked to speak to the manager. He came over and said that tag was not correct. Yet the tag had the description as well as the price. When that was pointed out he said it was a Wal-mart tag. Manager's name is Bill Tagler. I did mention to Bill that the boxes were so bad looking that they probably shouldn't even be on the shelf and his comment was that they weren't selling the boxes. Doesn't Menards realize this type of stuff just makes stores look dirty? I told my husband to forget it and we would buy it at Lowes or go to Home Depot. I left the cart and threw the sale ad on the floor and proceeded to walk out. Bill made a comment that it was unnecessary to throw things on the floor.
I left the cart and went outside. My husband stayed back and Bill was rude and said he was right. My husband asked to to see the $199.96 ad again and asked Bill to show him where it said Wal-mart. Bill was wrong. It did mention Wal-mart but because they were advertising Wal-mart Discover cards. Amazing thing is we were getting ready to order a Pole barn from them and had already decided on which one. I will pay more for a pole barn from someone else now as to have to deal with Menards.
Customer Service Manager was so rude that I will never step foot into that store again. I thought Menards price matched and strived on customer service. They wouldn't even honor their own price! Menards in Terre Haute might have won the battle but I won in the long run buy shopping else where.
