The Harnett County Planning Department awarded Robert L. Strickland: 4885 Alamac Road, Lumberton, NC 28358 a Block Grant of $54,387 dollar through the Community Rehabilitation Program for remodeling my mothers home. During the construction process I notice numerous defects that needed to be corrected and immediately informed the contractor. There are a total of twenty one (21) defects.
Due to my absents out of State of North Carolina, I had to write several letters to Wotten Company, Raleigh, NC, North Carolina Department of Commerce, Harnett County Manager, and a Harnett County Commissioner because the contractor refused to correct the defects. Numerous short cuts had been taken, personal items stolen, employees had the smell of alcohol on them, and the electrician used the cheapest outlet boxes. The stole items were only after I threaten them with legal action
The electrician did not use the ceiling brace for hanging the ceiling fans throughout the entire house. Two of the ceiling fans posed a grave danger to my mothers health because they almost fell on her due to the lack of the braces. To date, the twenty one (21) defects still remain the same. Additionally, the electrician became outraged when I told him about his quality of work. An electrical shortage occurred in the house only after he returned. Again, the contactor was informed but issues and nothing was done. He chose to completely ignore the request.
I requested that Harnett County Planning Department set up the dispute resolution process to resolve the matter however, I was denied the process. The contractor befriended my mother whom was eighty (80) years old at the time for their person gain.
The influence of race and economics were the key issues in this entire process. This company became less responsive and isolated themselves as if they are totally immune from being accountable.
My advice to anyone that reads this is staying clear of this company. It is entirely family owned which will take short cuts, lie, cheat the public, and steal at any cost to save money. They are superficial and misleading but professionally skilled at ripping off senior citizens. How many more people will they scam? Your mother or father could be next. You can see daylight through both doors when they are closed this is how bad the situation is. The taxpayers rewarded this company for short cuts $54,387 dollars.
