Stamps.com false promotion

They send out these promotional disks that say $45 in free postage when you sign up. There is no asterisk or anything like that next to that statement, however, there is an asterisk next to the statement about the free scale indicating that the $45 in free postage should be unconditional.

Of course, after signing up, they tell you in an email that it's actually $5 in free postage and if you keep the service, each month you get a $10 "coupon" that you can mail into them or something like that. I don't deal with company's that operate this way. I'd rather spend a couple hundred dollars extra per month to work with a company that treats its customers fairly and doesn't try to scam them.

The "customer support" (retention) specialist was very nice. It sounded like she was in training. She offered a couple different services that I may be interested in that they "rarely ever offer"-haha yeah right ;). But she was nice and just doing her job, and after about 5-6 minutes I finally had to say that I really don't want to keep any sort of relationship with stamps.com.

One more thing to note: when you sign up, it asks you for security questions. You should understand that the answers to these security questions are stored in PLAIN TEXT format. They are not encrypted which means that when the stamps.com representative pulls up your account, they can see them. This is important if you are planning on using potentially personally identifiable information for your answers such as the last four of your social. When you cancel your account over the phone, you have to provide the answer to these questions so make sure you don't make something up that you don't remember.
