Safe Step Tubs of Sterling Heights, Mi
Chigan the lever that controls the ability to drain tub broke and sunk to the bottom of the tub, and I had no way to drain my tub!

I bought a safe step tub Feb 27. It was installed the next week. I was very excited to get my new tub. I am a senior and had not been able to take a tub bath in a while because of some balance and ambulation problems. I quickly fell in love with my new tub. I had been assured that it was state of the art and completely safe. That it is made of all american made materials. That was important to me. The day it was installed there was a problem with the orig. Drainage system.

The installers went back to their business and got another, and they assured me it was entirely safe. Last Saturday, March 31, I was looking forward to attending a Wedding in the evening. I felt it would be a really good time to set in my tub and relax with the lights, the jets etc. When I got in the tub, I did notice that the lever for the drain seemed a little lose. I opened and closed it a couple of times and it worked fine. After I had enjoyed my bath and was ready to start to drain the tub, I turned the drainage lever and the entire thing fell off. The lever, pin, what ever you might call it sunk to the very bottom of my tub. I knew I was in trouble, the tub is tall. I felt my options were to try try open the door with great difficulty, because it seals and was pushing against the volume of water standing in the tub. I could only open barely. It was draining small amounts of water out onto my bathroom floor in increments. I am not very tall myself. Everytime I tried to see if I could reach the pin on the floor of my tub the water would have been over my head. I can not swim and have no inclination to hold my breathe and take a swim. I thought of trying to climb over the back of the tub? But my bathroom floor is standing in water. The only thing I had to grab onto to try to pull myself up over the high back of the tub was the towel rack and it had shown me quickly that it would not hold up. I am 68 Y.O. With great difficulty and trauma on my part, I was finally able to get the pin from the bottom of the tub and screw the drainage lever back together to drain. I drained the tub, and threw a heavy bath towel over the water on the floor to step onto. This could have cost me my life on so many levels.

I phoned the company several times and the salesman did get back to me that day. They did offer their apologies, they did come out on Monday after this happened on Saturday. I told them and the reason I am here, is simply because I don't know if I will ever trust this drainage system again. I will have my phone near me, I will have the means as much as I can to put the drain system back together for myself. It has taken much of the joy and peace of using this tub out of it for me. I can envision someone older than me and more infirmed losing their life over this happening to them. I made the Company aware of my concern. That is exactly why I am doing this is for anyone else who might accept their claims and trust that this would not ever happen to them. I want everyone who might think of bujying this tub or a similiar tub aware that they need to use with care.
