Ikea Costa Mesa
Return policy is misleading

I purchased a top grain leather set from Ikea. I love the way the sofa looks. I tried it out on the show room floor and it seemed great.

I make the purchase and they deliver the sofa to my home in little pieces. That made me feel unnerving because I just spent $2000 on a sofa from Ikea and didn't know it was going to be delivered in little pieces. While putting it together I notice the inside of the sofa is made from cheap flimsy particle board and plywood. That is a red flag for me because that is very cheap material and won't last. I've been pondering the return of the sofa the very first day I got it, but decided to give it a chance.

Fast forward 3 weeks later, I decide to return the sofa because a $2000 sofa that is made from cheap hollow wood material is not something I want to risk. It is already making squeaking noises and I feel it won't last more than a year. I start my return process by contacting the store to setup a date for them to pick up the sofa. They tell me I have to contact the shipping company to setup the appointment. I do, and the shipping company says I must contact the store. I start to get the run around...

So I contact the store, and they said they can't help me over the phone and I'd have to into the store.

I go into the store for a return, but they tell me I can't return it because it has been assembled, which then makes the furniture used. The Ikea store return policy is 90 days return for unused products. This policy is misleading because EVERYTING from Ikea needs to be assembled. I purchased a $7 wooden table that needed to be asssembled. How do I know if I love the sofa or not if I don't assemble it? Why would anyone buy something from Ikea and leave it in their home UNASSEMBLED? You'd have to assemble it to know if you like it.

Anyways, I'm also filing with the BBB, putting a hold on credit card charges and will not shop at any Ikea store ever again. Please be warned, Ikea's return policy is basically non-existant.

Ikea return policy is a scam
