When my husband and I bought our home we decided we needed a large sofa to fit the living room. Ikea carried the only corner sofa in our price range. Although my husband resisted because of Ikea's past quality issues, I won him over by pointing out the 10 year warranty. Well, here we are, 2 years later and 3 of the underside supports on the sofa have popped off. There's an entire side of the sofa that no one can sit on. That's when I found out about their "original" receipt requirement to utilize the warranty. Of course I don't have the original receipt 2 years after it was purchased! But even if we did, it wouldn't matter, because their receipts are printed on thermal paper and fade after about a year and there's no way to save it! I saw someone recommend making a copy of the receipt before it fades, but that wouldn't be honored, because they demand that it be original. There's no way Ikea's warranty isn't a scam; it's totally 'bait and switch'. I would love to hear from ANYONE out there who's had Ikea honor a 10,15 or 25 year warranty more than a couple of years after purchase since they put this original receipt policy in place.
