Painter, John E. Symon, attempted to start job in December (not a good idea in the Northeast). Work had to be halted because of cold weather and the prep work was never done as per the written contract. Sanding and caulking work proved to be substandard and inferior.
When painter started the job again in late spring, necessary prep work was still not completed as per the contract and the workmen were rushed and not allowed to finish the job properly.instead, they were pulled off to go work for other customers. Shutters were re-hung without even being washed. We insisted they take them down again and wash/paint them properly.
Despite the fact that the job was begun in December of as of August, the house had yet to be finished properly as it still did not have its shutters washed, painted and re-hung.
In addition to the very poor prep, (house was to be stripped 90 to 100% to the bare wood if need be), paint was sprayed on, not brushed or rolled and did not coat clapboard properly. Result is very rough-looking finish. Painter did not bother to remove storms and the windows, window sashes and even doors were not done correctly. Paint was accidentally sprayed on foundation of this house, a 1745 Colonial Antique.
Our attempts to contact painter through e-mail, phone calls and registered return receipt mail have gone unanswered.
Work was so bad we are having to have the house re-painted as it is already peeling and cracking.
