The way Home Depot does business is shameful. They promise more than they deliver, and from the outset they know the result will fall short even of something reasonable. On each side of the installation their design was 3" off, but the measurement, done twice by a highly capable contractor, was accurate. I raised the general problem with the designer at the store, who was baffled and blamed the design software, which is what they use for every kitchen.
Once it was all over, they said the cabinet style had to be altered to solve the sizing issue, which showed me they were aware of the problem prior to installation. The store manager attempted to shift blame to us, claiming that we had initialed the design and so were liable for what resulted. In her view, her job in the process was just making sure Home Depot carried no liability. A visit from the regional manager followed, and his conclusion was that we should cover half the cost and Home Depot would cover the rest. Generous, no doubt, but half of the sizing problems would remain. Over 4 months, I have called the regional manager repeatedly and received no answer.
My firm belief is that integrity is absent at this company. Plenty of dependable vendors would love to do excellent work, and choosing one only requires some extra time at the start.
