Scammed money for unfinished work, left before the job was done, and was abusive when called on it

My wife and I hired Steve Turbovich (last name might be misspelled) to do some excavating work and help to build a chain link fence around our property. He was the 5th contractor that we had estimate the job, and since he did both excavating and fencing, we went with him

It started off well. Steve took care of the excavating and really did a good job. Because he was a "one man show", he needed an occasional hand with picking up broken concrete and holding electric lines up while he drove his machinery underneath, etc. He had done such a good job that I actually decided to have him do more excavating.

When Steve was done with the excavating, he was going to bring in a subcontractor for the fencing. I wasnt going to see Steve again until he came back when the fencing was done to move a tree for me. Foolishly, I paid him the other half for the job at that time, so he and the fencing company were paid up in full at that time.

Instead of the fencing company, Steve said that he had a guy who was available who would do the fence for the price we had agreed on. I told him that I didnt care who did it, as long as it was still going to get done, and be up to par with the instructions I had given already (gate here, gate here, and no spaces that my cats can get out of).

What I got was a disabled man who didnt show up very often, took 2 weeks and 4 days to get two strips of chain link fence installed, and who threatened me with bodily harm on my own property... And then refused to leave my property.

The fence guy (Mike) didnt have his own power supply (and we dont have an outside outlet) so we had to be home at all times to allow the fence guy to use our power supply for his tools. We also had to allow him use of our indoor water for his concrete. Because of this, I spent a month "on call" for a guy who didnt show up. He left town in the middle of a job to do another job... And stayed longer on that trip that he was supposed to, to finish it.
Still, our project at home wasnt done and we didnt find out he had left until he got back.

During the fencing of the yard, I had a neighbor request that we skip doing a side of our yard to allow them to put up what they wanted.
As a result of this, the actual order of fence was about 1/4 less than the bill I paid. I was told that, instead of refunding me some money, that the money would go into upgrades for my gates. When the gates were installed, they were low end and surely not anywhere near the cost of the money I should have gotten back.

When called on this, both men... Steve and Mike... Got angry and foul mouthed with me. To this day, I still havent received a dime back from that job and I am looking at small claims court to get any justice out of this situation.

I wasnt able to seed my lawn or put up the shrubs I wanted because I was always waiting for Steve and his excavator to come back to move my tree first. The tree is an aspen that was planted too close to my house by the owner before my wife and I. It needs to be moved because aspens have large root systems and it is less than 2 feet away from my home. Of course now, Steve isnt going to take care of that either and I probably wont get my grass in this year after waiting for Steve to finish the job.
A quick google of Butte Montana will show that we get 80 days of frost-free grow season, and I spent a month waiting on my two lengths of chain link.

Because of the fence guy Mike, I had to stay at home and miss a planned Father's day trip with my wife and little girl because I had to be home to let Mike in to finish the job. Although the job is "finished", there are still glaring problems with the job... Piles of leftover concrete, unfinished concrete by the posts, metal clippings all over the ground, and spaces big enough for a golden retriever to get out of the yard.

I dont recommend Northwest Enterprises, their contractor Steve, or his subcontractor Mike to anyone. Between the treatment I received, the financial scam they perpetrated, and the violence and anger I got back when I called them on it, I feel that these people are not on the level or suitable for family jobs.
