My wife and I were selling our modular home in NY, this company has been nothing short of a nightmare from the start. Even my realtor will atest to that. First, it took them two weeks to send a payoff letter to our real estate agent. My wife verified the fax number with them and they stated they would send it within 10 minutes but it never arrived. We had to go back and forth on this issue for two weeks before the letter was finally sent, but that is small potatoes compared to the rest of our nightmare.
We owed a balance of over $10,000 on our mortgage, they originally said we owed $10,541, so I wrote one certified check at the cost of $30/check, they called back a couple days later and stated they needed an another certified check in the amount of $231. Because they did not give me to correct balance in the first place, I spent $60 just to write out two certified checks.
When they finally recieved the checks they said they could not cash them because a hole was punched through them. However, it was the bank's policy that issued the checks to puch a hole through every certified check because that is their way of verifying the funds are availalble for that check. My bank was willing to talk to 21st mortgage about the check but they refused.instead, 21st mortgage called my wife and said they were going to mail the checks back.
Due to our past experiences with this company my wife asked them to verify the address that they would be mailing the checks because it was over $10,000 (no small change). The lady on the line verified the mailing address, and said that once the checks arrived we would have to cancel them and that the balance (s) they gave us were incorrect and gave us a totally different amount than what was originally stated the first two times (maybe third time is a charm)
After a couple weeks the checks never came, we called them again and found out they mailed it to the correct PO Box but the wrong city! In order to cancel the checks we needed the checks physically present at our bank.By the time we were able to get to the post office they were already mailed back to 21st mortgage corp.By this time the frustration level had escalted to fevor pitch. I talked to one of the managers and she tried to turn this around on my wife, saying that my wife verified the wrong address when in fact she did not.
I told the manager that I noticed a lot of reports on usacomplaints.com and that I would be filing a report with the better business bureau about their practices and she told me "that everybody is entitled to their opinion". If I was a manager of a business and if somebody threatened to file a complaint, I would do everything in my power to prevent that from happening. Customer satisfaction is clearly not #1 with this company. They need a major overhaul with their overall operations. I would not reccomend doing business with this company. Avoid AT ALL COSTS! By the way, we are still waiting for our $10,000 certified checks to be mailed back to the correct address.
