I contracted with Mr. Burt Leeds of Floral Park Design Center, to install over 900 feet of engineered wood flooring. On the second day of installation, it was raining, and the men could not work outside. They refused to do the cutting and sawing in the basement, and chose, instead, to do it on top of already laid flooring. The result is a mass of scratches and dings, which were not easily seen till the floor could be seen in sunlight the next day.in addition, they wound up tearing several slivers of wood as they joined one section to another, and then they just left them. They also decimated the doors they cut down so that they would open over the flooring, and cut the wood unevenly against the kitchen saddle - they then wanted to camouflage that with a strip of painted shoe molding. Mr. Leeds has claimed that his men did not damage the flooring. There is no question that the entire hallway showed damage the morning after the job was finished, and it was immediately covered with a 5 X 8 area rug which the men themselves put down for me as they left.
Mr. Leeds originally said, when I first called him, that if some areas were damaged, he would replace them. That was a lie - he had, and has, no intention of doing that.
The installers also left a lot of glue residue on the flooring, and I could not get Mr. Leeds to send someone here to remove it, or, at least, to tell me how to do so myself.
In addition to the poor workmanship, and the sloppiness, and damage caused by the installers, Mr. Leeds charged me for moldings which he had not even provided (I had bought them on my own), and since it had been months between the contract and the actual job, I had forgotten about it, and paid him for it in the final check. He has refused to return my money - money which does not belong to him. He promised twice to send me a check, and has not done so. Now that he has been paid, heis simply ignoring me.
