While I was away at Boy Scout Summer camp with our Troop, my wife, contacted A-1 Well Drilling & Pump Service, LLC (on 07-25-08), at 732-462-5550 because there was no water in our house. Joe Finchner, SR came out to troubleshoot and repair our private residential well system. He diagnosed the problem and replaced the defective "Pump-Trol" controller on the system.
He had to offset the controller with brass nipples and ells due to clearance on the inlet line. He also installed a new liquid filled pressure gauge with additional brass nipples that really was not needed. He serviced the well tank and set it for 40-60 psi operation as well as balancing the system. He claimed that the controller failed because the system was short cycling due to the small size of the well tank. He also tried to sell her a much larger expansion tank "for best life & result of pump".
Joe charged a "flat fee" of $882.75 (with sales tax) to replace a controller that sells for under $40. He did not leave any of the defective parts, would not provide the defective controller and parts when asked, would not provide an itemized accounting of the service, parts supplied or the time that he spent doing the repair.
After contacting several other local well drilling companies, I determined the average quoted cost for this repair was between $100 and $200. I feel that A-1 Well Drilling & Pump Service, LLC use bad business practices with their "Flat Rate" repairs and rip off their customers in the process.
My wife was desperate to get the water running again after being down for several days and was not aware that she was being ripped off by Joe, SR!

It was a costly mistake in ever calling A-1 Well Drilling & Pump Service. It appears that they also have locations in Freehold, NJ and New Egypt, NJ & Buyer Beware of this RipOff!
