I too stupidly (desperately) let our mortgage lapse late. Because we too were told NOT to under any circumstances make any mortgage payments.
We then started the process of 'loan modification' with them. We received a pre - approval letter, and We were instructed to wire $2,495 check. I too had already searched their name on the web, and our search turned up nothing bad. NHLAP said the entire process would take 45-60 days, and their success rate was 99%. They also told us that we would get a full refund if the modification was denied.
Shortly after the check was faxed, we had trouble getting in touch with anyone. We called in January because we received a foreclosure letter and they told us it is in the Mitigation Department THAT everything is going TO BE fine. Now, no one response to emails or phone calls. To lose our modification, our home and our money is very sickening, but to know that we were victims of this scam is down right scary!
Believe me, if this could happen to us, it could easily happen to other frightened home owners! Please, expose these (and other) fraudsters who are doing this to vulnerable people who are in danger of losing their homes, and who are desperate for hope. I have emails, and a contract to back up my claims! Beware! Beware! Beware!
