Charge my with a 900.00 dead meter bill after 2 months of moving into my home

Entergy charge me with a dead meter bill of 900.00 dollars. My family and i had just moved in to the home in april and 3 month later without any noticification at all they sum up an amount of close to $900.00 saying that i owe. I had no ideal what was a dead meter and why the entergy company would make up a sum of that amount without even writing me and explaining to me why im responcible for the dead meter. Still to this day they have'nt send me documents on the dead meter they say they cannot find any documents. Now im stuck with a 900.00 dollar bill that i have no clue why im paying, so its rather pay the money that i serious don't have up frunt or my kids and i will be in the dark. How can they get away with this i don't mind paying what i owe amonth of what i use up in my home for entergy but i don't understand how i'm stuck with a $900.00 dead me bill in less than 2 to 3 months and my regular entergy bill is less than 100.00 per month. They should not get away with this but i know they will. Thanks
