Tore up my home while moving it

I hired Don's Mobile Homes to move my mobile home from one site to another site about 30 miles apart. They moved it just over 6 miles and couldn't move it any further because they tore it up.

First, they came and looked at both sites, said we had to cut 1 limb down at the site it was going to be moved to. So we cut it down. That was the only thing at that time we had to do to either of the sites.

The first time they came to move it, they got stuck in the yard after they had gotten it off the pad where it was sitting. They used their whench truck and got it unstuck. Then they couldn't make the turn to get it up onto the road without hitting the side of it on a tree. The tree was surrounded by power lines and couldn't be cut down. So, They said the only way was to cut out some trees and brush that was across the road. We asked the guy across the road if we could, he said no problem. Only to find out that they were going to charge me $125 an hour if they had to do it. We told them we would do it ourselves, which meant they wopuld have to come back another day to finish the move. We got it all cleared out and called them to let them know so they could come back to finish the move.

Well, they came back 9 days later. They made it onto the road and that's where the real problems started. They had to go down a small hill and turn left at the bottom of the hill. They dragged the back of the mobile home 1/4 way down the hill at the bottom. Then they couldn't make it around the corner because their truck started going off the road and down an embankment.

Again they had to use their whench truck to pull their other truck back upon the road. While they were doing that, they also put a chain and come-along from a tree to the axles of the home. While all this was going on I was taking pictures. They also was dragging the back of the home the whole time all of this was going on, down the hill and around the corner. It totally messed up the frame underneath the mobile home.

After they finally got it around the corner it reallt looked bad. But they seem to think the frame that was sticking out, which was suppose to be under the home, would go back where it should be once the got the home straightened back up. Well it didn't. Every little hill, bump, and curve the back of the home would drag. They twisted and bent the frame work plus bent the frame where the axles are and bent the axles.

They stopped about 4 miles down the road and said we needed to find a place to park it because it was sagging in the back and there was no way they could move it any further. My husband went to a store about 2 miles down the road and asked if we could park it there until we could get it fixed. So, they said yes.

After we got it to the store the supervisor of the moving crew called a welder he knew. He (the supervisor) said it just needed to be welded to make it sturdier. The welder came and looked at it and said he MIGHT be able to weld a whole new frame under it (for $1000) but if that didn't work the only thing he could think of was to CUT the back half of the home OFF the haul in 2 different pieces.

Well, we had 2 other guys look at it and they both said there is no way it can be fixed. And the only way to move it is to cut it in half. So I called and meet with a lawyer to see what I should do. He said to get ahold of Don's Mobile Homes and get the name and number of their insurance and if they won't give it to me I need to sue them. And to do that I will have to pay $600 for a retainer up front.

I called Don's and the guy I paid $1300 down payment to was very upset that I was going to file a claim against him. He said it was because my mobile home was an older home (1982) and that's why the frame bent. I told him it was because of how they DRAGGED it down the hill and around the corner and I have pictures of all of it. After I said I have pictures he decided to give me the name and number of the insurance company.

Keep in mind that the mobile home is still parked at the store. All of this Started on Sept. 11, it was parked at the store on Sept. 20 and is still there to this day, Oct. 28.

After waiting for the appointment with the lawyer and everything, I called the insurance company on Oct. 7. I talk to them once a week and still don't know what is going to happen. This morning I got an email from them saying that they are still reviewing the claim to determine if coverage applies for this type of situation. If I had the $600 I would just go get the lawyer and sue them. But I don't have the money.

I have already sold the mobile home I am living in because I was suppose to have a home to move into. And now I have nothing!!! So please of you are planning on having a mobile home moved, do not use Don's Mobile Homes!!!
