Don's Mobile Homes
Ripoff Terrible experience

Don's Mobile Homes in Sallisaw moved a home for us recently. We had contacted them several months before to have the home moved. At first they were very friendly, and promised that they would be able to move the home without any trouble in a reasonable timeframe. To reserve our spot, we paid them 3/4 of the total amount they quoted to move the home.

A short time later we asked if we could put the move on hold while we worked out some details on the new site. They said that would be fine, but when we contacted them to go ahead with the move, they said they were booked, and it would be a while before they could get to us.

We were patient, since we were the ones who asked the first time to put things on hold. We did have to pay the lot rent for the park the home was in at the time, but we decided that one month's lot fee wouldn't be too bad.

We waited for Don's to contact us when they were ready for the move. Near the end of the month, we began to worry, and contacted them. They said they would be able to get us moved in the next few days. Something "came up" though, and they did not move the home as promised. The end of the month came and went, and we had to pay another lot fee.

At this point we were becoming irritated. Looking back, it appeared that once they had gotten the $1200 down payment, they really weren't worried about keeping up their end of the deal. We kept contacting them during the next month, and each time we were told that they would be getting to us, but they never did. A third month went by, and another $115 lot fee.

By now, faced by how ridiculous the situation had become, we made it clear that the home needed to be moved soon, before the end of the next month. Finally, just a few days before the end of the month, they said they would be able to get us worked into their schedule.

The day of the move, I met with them at their home office to make sure everything was okay, and to see if I needed to do anything. Some of the workers were very rude, and one of the movers mentioned that I needed to make sure the lot fee had been paid before they moved the home. I thought it odd that he would bring that up, and I began to wonder if they had made other families wait like they had done to us, causing them to have to pay extra fees too.

I met with them again at the mobile home to let them in so they could check inside and take care of anything that needed to be done. At this point, one of the workers mentioned how surprised he had been when the park manager told him that we were clear and didn't owe any money. Again, it made me question what they had done to other people.

He also mentioned the fact that he was worried about whether or not they would have any trouble getting the mobile home into its new position. I was puzzled, because my husband had met with their supervisor to look over the new home site, and the supervisor had promised that they would not have any trouble, even on the areas that looked questionable to us. I left, feeling very uneasy.

My husband took some time off from work that day to go to the new site. When I spoke to him, he sounded very upset about the experience level of the movers. The supervisor had assured us that they would not have any problem with the move, yet they were barely able to get the home off the main road, and knocked over a post that the supervisor specifically said would not be a problem.

Finally, after several hours, their crew gave up and left the home sitting on the edge of our property. They did tell us that before they would finish the job, they wanted more than double the amount of money they had originally quoted.

We didn't hear anything from them for almost 2 months, when they charged us for the rest of the job that they never finished. During this time, we had to put the home on blocks and tie it down where it sat by ourselves in order to level it out, and so that insurance would cover it. I'm not sure what to do with about this very unprofessional group of people, and would appreciate any tips/ideas. Thank you.
