Handyman To The Rescue Of Sacramento California (AKA) Robert And Maryann Corkett
Gross incompetence would be an understatement

Robewrt Corkett and Maryann Corkett:

Handyman to the rescue.

Gross incompetence would be an understatement. He clearly exaggerated his skill level and left work uncompleted, on a scale of One to Ten he would be rated a three, incomplete work incompetent and not trustworthy.

During the month of December I retained Robert Corkett Jr. To remodel my kitchen I provided a floor plan and a layout of the work to be done.

He picked up the cabinets and arrived at my house dragging one behind him that I had to pay for twice, he also broke several of the cabinets that I also paid for twice.

He did not calculate the correct measurements for the countertops that had to be special ordered and paid for twice on two countertops his mistake was off more than two inches, and on another off by one inch.

The upper cabinets are misaligned, and look sloppy the doors are not even close to being aligned properly, cabinet doors are marred, scratched, and even dented. He used wood putty for a filler and left it all over the cabinets just messy work.

The countertop electrical outlets are not properly aligned in that spacing from the top of the countertop to the outlet is not properly spaced most of the outlets cover plates had to be trimmed, also the wiring is faulty; an open neutral, and a dropped ground further he was to install ground fault indicators anywhere within six feet of a water supply he only installed one when three are needed, his argument was only one is needed he never looked up the code that clearly states a GFI is needed anywhere within six feet of water.

Gas line moved when I complained of gas leaks he merely put duct tape around the pipe joint and took off for a vacation to Mexico there were three separate gas leaks that had to be repaired. I had to hire an outside plumber to complete this job at a cost of more than $1250.00 He also knocked a whole in the hallway closet that never was repaired while trying to install the gas line.

The plumbing under the sink lines are mixed up cold where hot should be and hot where cold should be, lines that were installed were twisted and kinked and the (p) trap has a rise of two inches not allowing for a proper draining of water, causing a gurgling sound when water drains, again a plumber had to be retained to fix the mistakes.

Lights mounted in ceiling missing cover plates and electrical wiring not done properly and incomplete, not up to code, when I asked him about this he simply said he left the cover plates in the attic no where have they been found

Kitchen exhaust fan not working at all, and installed in the wrong area of the kitchen, he removed the flue for the exhaust fan the one he replaced it with was just duct taped up. And not places over the stove.

He was to remove a window and stucco the wall with three coats of stucco he only completed one coat. I even e-mailed him on this and he just blew me off.

He was given a cash budget to perform the work he bought things that just disappeared like 150 foot of electrical wire, or plumbing valves and light fixtures. He purchased the cheapest florescent fixtures and cut the plugs off and placed the wires on the outside of the wall, and the fixtures that were placed under the cabinet have already fallen off.

I chose maple cabinets and requested and provided maple strip for the kick plates and trim plates he chose to use pine and tried to stain it to look like maple, not even close one is a hard wood and the other is a soft wood.

The back splash for the sink was to be of green rock not regular sheet rock, and when taping was done instead of putting three coats of mud he used only one coat when I pointed out you could see the lines from an improper mudding he just put some mud on top of the freshly painted surface and called it good.

Upon texturing the ceiling in the kitchen he used a flat blade to smear around the texture and left it looking like a child finger-painting not the knockdown look that was paid for.

Robert Corkett and his wife Maryann allowed other people not known to my wife or myself into our home for a viewing of the poor quality of work they had preformed, they also would allow their dog Oreo into our house after asking them not to this was an added cost to have the fleas removed, also they allowed a stray dog into the house while working here. The worst part is he lives just across the street, he was hired as my wife and I felt sorry for him and his wife as they claim his wife was fired after working for SMUD for 19 years, I am sure this is just another lie that has been told to gain trust and sympathy for whatever their reasons are.

While the work was being preformed I installed door locks on all the bedrooms, Maryann asked my wife why we had locked our doors, what a dumb question I guess you can see the mentality just with this question alone!

He watched the discovery channel and stated he undercharged for the remodel and started arguing with me about the cost.

I would not trust them with even a simple task of putting out the garbage let alone mowing the lawn.

Both of these adults have lied and tried to gain our trust they have an excuse for everything, just be cautious and aware of what you are paying for and what you get.

It would have been better and cheaper to have let Home Depot complete the job.

I have pictures of all the faulty work preformed and would be willing to share them upon request.

Just be aware of the scam these people are doing, I doubt anything can be done to change my opinion of these people as I live just across the street from them.
