I contacted this contractor 1-14-07 about installing a few supply vents in a home I purchased in 3-06 for extra heat. We agreed on the vents being installed in the drop ceiling in the basement for $400. The work was done on 1-18-07 while I was at work and my mother was at my home. When I arrived home, I found that Don Rice (owner of Flori) had authorized the installation of the vents in the walls instead of the drop ceiling as we had verbally agreed.
He also had authorized the installation of an air return in the closed furnace/laundry room also located in the basement. I called him immediately to let him know I was not happy with work that was done and left a voicemail.
He called back a few hours later and was extremely belligerent and loud as I tried to tell him that he should have called me so I could authorize the installation of the vents in the walls instead of the ceiling. I was told that he was the professional and not I, and to do the work that I wanted, he would have to rip out all the ductwork currently in place and re-do everything for a cost of $2500.
He filed suit against me in small claims court on July '07 and he won. He even inflated the original invoice charge ($568. Xx) to over $700. I appealed the first decision and then found out that according to the International Residential Building Code, that installing an air return in a furnace room is not acceptable because it can cause carbon monoxide to dispursed throughout the home through the ductwork.
I took this evidence to the trial de novo in November '07 and lost. He is now threatening to garnish my wages for the judgment amount.
My children and I suffer from frequent headaches and nausea which could be a result of carbon monoxide poisoning.
I have no where left to turn for help. Please don't make the same mistake and have this company do work on your home or business.
