No AC Thanks to HH Gregg

Back on May 22 my family and I purchased not one, not two, but 3 Amana air conditioners from this store, totaling over $1,000. We brought the stupid things home and promptly installed the first one that night. When we went to turn the thing on, it didn't work correctly. So, we called the store and they said to bring it in and they would exchange it for another unit. So, we brought it in got the new unit and installed it.

Well, here it is, August, and the unit that we previously replaced has quit working, the SECOND replacement! I called HH Gregg and told them this, keep in mind that we ALSO purchased the 5 year warranty that says that if ANYTHING goes wrong with it they will come out to our home and fix or replace it at no charge to us! HH Gregg's GM Matt told me to bring it in. Apparently he didn't hear the part about the 5 year warranty! Or bother to look up the fact that it is 12,000 BTU's, a rather large unit to just "bring in".

My father is the only 'handyman' around here and is not even suppose to be lifting this amount of weight. I hung up frustrated from Matt and proceeded to call Amana since it still has their warranty on it. Amana sent someone out to the house Saturday. The repairman said that the unit has a bad cord and bad board. He called Amana today, 8/6/07, and returned a call to me saying that Amana did not have the parts needed to replace this with and that I would have to return the unit to the store, Amana's fault that the parts are not available yet.

I then proceeded to call HH Gregg again. Spoke to manager Scott, told him the situation about Amana NOT having the parts and tha fact that this is the SECOND unit. He then transferred me to Bianca who scheduled a time for them to deliver the new replacement to my home, SUCCESS! Not! Bianca also informed me that since this is the third replacement that the 5 year warranty is now VOID! Even though it was Amana's fault that the parts were not in stock and I was told BY AMANA to return the unit back to the store for an exchange. This should be excluded from my extended warranty from HH Gregg since it was not my fault that 2 out of 5 units have been defective and also the fact that the unit itself is still covered under the Amana FACTORY warranty for a year, May May.

So now we are in a 'fight' with the corporate office to get this whole mess straightened out.

I really would have preferred to have had the unit itself repaired since we have not had the best of luck with Amana. This way I would have known that at least ONE of my units was operating as it should. But now I have to chance getting another unit and having something wrong with it and not having a warranty to cover it and also knowing that Amana does not carry parts to fix their own product!
