Richard is a scammer. He portrayed himself as a knowledgeable and legitimate landscaper. He is neither. He is not insured, bonded, or licensed.
He took $25,000 as a 50% downpayment to landscape our new home. He had materials delivered that he never paid for. He abandoned the project after disappearing for the entire summer. We had to hire another landscaping company before the winter arrived. We lived with mud for a year after moving into our new home.
He repeatedly made excuses why he was not coming to complete the project - illness, depression, out of town for emergencies. I finally contacted his father who said he is ashamed of his son and is well aware of his history of stealing from people.
Richard is becoming well known around the twin cities for preying on new homeowners, promising work and then never following through. Search his name on the Better Business Bureau website and the conciliation court website for Hennepin County. He has numerous complaints and lawsuits, many unpaid.
WCCO did a news report about Richard Lee during the summer of 2005. He stole from some families in Woodbury. His modus operundi is to knock on your door, compliment your home and make promises he never intends to keep. If you see this man knocking on your door, hide and pretend you are not home!
