Richard Thompson, Home Repair/Remodeling Abandoment, Bad Checks, Unpaid Subcontractors Ripoff

Where do I begin with this guy! I'll start with our story and work into other stories. We hired this guy two years ago to do a home remodeling/addition project. All through the year on many occasions, Thompson stated he would do a particular part of the project cheaper if he was given up front money which we paid. Within 8 months from the beginning of the project, we had subcontractors calling us as they were not paid by Thompson for completed work and Thompson wasn't returning their calls.

Thompson gave us countless excuses as to why he hadn't paid them yet. To make a long story short, within the 9th month of the project, workers were not showing up at the job. We called one worker and he said Thompson had written a bad check to him so he was not coming back.By the 10th month of our project, there were two men working on our project with an original count of over 14 men.

We began investigating Thompson and found he had been in prison for home repair fraud consisting of writing bad checks and had a current court order from the Illnois Attorney General's office stating Thompson was not to conduct/own a home repair/remodeling business in the state of Illinois. Thompson is currently in contempt of this court order.

He was arrested New Years Eve... Eve 2005 when local police were tipped off to where he was living. There was an outstanding warrant for his arrest at that time. Our home project was never completed by Thompson which resulted in us finding another builder to finsh the job.

We have several liens on our home from Thompson not paying the subcontractors which we found out were hired by Thompson by finding them in the yellow pages.

Thompson is currently back in jail on two counts of home repair fraud in Kane County.

I have uncovered countless victims of Thompson's for the past twenty five years. There are countless lawsuits charging Thompson with home repair fraud, bad check writing, etc.

Thompson rents where he lives and eventually stops paying the home owner. Thompson and his family have been evicted from rental homes countless times over the past twenty years with one case in particular where the homeowner says Thompson left in the middle of the night when threatened to be evicted and took all the cabinets in the house.
