On Monday Jan 22nd, I allowed Dave with handy Dandy services into my home to install crown molding in my living room and dining room. Upon Dave entering my home, I asked him if I would need to open the garage for him to set up his saw and work materials. At the same time, I advised him that we had brand new carpet installed and told him that he would either need to wear booties or remove his shoes upon entering. He told me that both would not be a problem, and that he had brought a tarp to be put down in the living room. At 9am, I left for work and he still had not set up anything. I came back on my lunch break at 1pm and upon entering my home I noticed that Dave had set up "shop" literally in my living room! He was using a large saw to shave down my doors and the crown molding. There were piles and piles and piles of sawdust everywhere! On my brand new carpet, computers, Plasma TV... He turned my living room into his own personal wood shop! His air compressor for his machinery leaked onto my carpeting leaving rusty stains on several of my stairs. When my finance approached him and asked him why hadnt set up outside he apologized and said that he made a mistake. Immediately upon noticing this we asked for him and his worker to leave. Not only did they destroy our living room, but then his worker had the audasity to say that we were acting like 5 years old. After threatening to have the police called if he did not leave, he gathered his things and left. We had to call out a carpet cleaning place and a professional cleaning service to clean up all of the residue, stains and saw dust.in addition, we now have to incur the cost of having another company come out to finish painting and caulking. He now has the nerve to sue me! I am more then willing to pay him for his supplies, however not for the entire job. I plan on filing a counterclaim for the cost of the carpet cleaning, professional cleaning and caulking and painting.
