Mid-Atlantic Waterproofing
Mid-Atlantic caused extensive flood damage to my basement by using duct tape on the out-take pipe. Ripoff Columbia Maryland

On April 4th I contacted Mid-Atlantic Waterproofing because the out-take pipe which removes water from the sump pump had come loose from the the original installation and the water was flooding out my side walk.

Mid-Atlantic sent a technician to my home to repair the pipe, but instead of repairing the pipe as it was originally installed, the technician repaired the pipe using duct tape.

On April 5th and 6th I contacted Mid-Atlantic to inform them of the repair and they indicated that they would send someone out to correct the repair. Mid-Atlantic never corrected the repair.

On June 26, the Washington Metropolitan area experience severe flooding. The duct was washed off and water flowed back down the embankment into the basement causing 2 feet of water to stand in the basement.

This water caused $31,000 in damage to a fully completed custom basement. The water ruined my funace, hot water heater, washer, dryer, freezer, 50" TV, leather furniturea, 2 wk old berber carpet, motor to the whirlpool tub, BOSE stereo, gas fireplace, drywall and a cedar lined closet. The water caused extensive damage to the entire basement.

Everything had to be cleaned and most of my personnal items had to be thrown out. My home would have been a perfect picture for Mid-Atlantics Yellow Pages ad.

I contacted Mid-Atlantic on several times on June 26 and was told that they were only responding to emergencies. The water subsided. I cleaned everything, but the rain continued and the basement re-flooded on June 27. I continued to contact Mid-Atlantic and they continued to inform me that they were swamped and emergencies came first. At this point I was not understanding what rated as an emergency, but my sump pump was working. The only problem was it was pump water out of the basement and the water was rolling down inclide where the duct tape had been and flooding the basement.

When I contacted Mid-Atlantic on June 28 they indicated that they would send someone out. They sent Roger a waterproofing technician. Roger replaced all the piping and applied plumbers glue to the out-take pipe and placed all of the pipe into the ground.

Upon the arrival of my Insurance Co./USAA the adjuster informed me that the problem was caused by Mid-Atlantic. The USAA adjuster indicated that USAA would pay $10,000 on the claim and the rest would have to come from Mid-Atlantic.

USAA requested receipts for my losses. I provided receipts for all items lost and photos to USAA and Mid-Atlantic. When I contacted Mid-Atlantic Michael Forman indicated that he was busy, but he could possibly come to look at the damage in 2 weeks.

Forman also indicated that Mid-Atlantic was not responsible for the damage, but he would speak with his boss Andrew.

I heard nothing from Mid-Atlantic unitl I wrote a letter to the Better Business Bureau (BBB) providing them details of the issue. Mid-Atlantic told the BBB that they had been trying to work with me, but I was being unreasonable.

At this point they had not even surveyed the damage. They were just stating that it was an act of nature. The only problem with that was that both neighbors on either side of me received no water.

It took Mid-Atlantic until the middle of November to come out to survey the damage, by then I had gutted the basement and started over. Mike Forman came to my home assessed the damage and said it would have to be litigated.

Now Mid-Atlantic tells me I must sue them. They have far more monetary resources than I do and I think they should have excepted responsibility for the damage they caused.

My insurance company sent the $10,000 check five days upon receipt of receipts for my losses.

Mid-Atlantic has ripped me off and now they are hiding behind their legal team to take advantage of the public.

During the many times I contacted Mid-Atlantic I was lied too, hung up on, put on hold for as long as 20 min. And received the consistent response of I don't know who the owners are, the owner is out of town and its not our fault.

On December 11, I reported Mid-Atlantic to the Inspector General for faud against consumers. Their response is pending.
