This company told me it had a washer & dryer in stock, and that it would be delivered in 1-2 days. When I called later to find out about delivery, I was told the products would ship directly from a distributor at the end of the month — about 30 days later. I cancelled the order on the telephone. I confirmed the cancellation with an email.
A few days later, I received an email from the company telling me that it refused to accept my cancellation. I replied that it did not matter because I had cancelled the order according to the terms specified in its on-line policies. The company said it would not stop delivery, and had already charged me.
I called the credit card company. Sure enough, I had been charged in full the day of the order — 30 days before the company expected to ship it.
Three weeks later, after my credit card company intervened, the company finally issued a refund.
Out of curiosity, I called the company and as told the products were in stock and that they always shipped from the company and never from a distributor or the manufacturer.
